Los Film Independent Spirit Awards 2019, dieron a conocer esta mañana, los nominados de su edición 33 a lo mejor del cine independiente de 2018, con el anuncio hecho por Gemma Chan y Molly Shannon desde el Hotel W en Hollywood (vía sitio oficial).
Dato: Para ser elegible, el filme debió contar con un micropresupuesto y hasta $20 millones de dólares.
We the Animals de la distribuidora The Orchard, fue la cinta más nominada en los FISA, con 5 menciones, incluyendo Mejor Ópera Prima, Mejor Fotografía, Mejor Edición, Premio Someone to Watch, y Mejor Actor de Reparto. La trama del drama dirigido por Jeremiah Zagar, sigue a tres amigos, Manny, Joel y Jonah, que recorren los caminos de su infancia, y luchan contra el amor volátil de sus padres. Mientras Manny y Joel se convierten en una versión de su padre, Jonah se entrega a un mundo imaginado por su propia cuenta.
Si hablamos de distribuidoras, A24 lidera las nominaciones con 12 menciones, gracias a películas como Eight Grade, First Reformed y Hereditary, seguida de Amazon Studios, Netflix y The Orchard, con 6 cada una. Annapurna Pictures le sigue con 5.
Otros favoritos del año como Roma, The Favourite y You Were Never Really Here, aterrizaron importantes nominaciones. La aclamada cinta del mexicano Alfonso Cuarón, fue nominada como Mejor Película Internacional. Dentro de unos días, Netflix la lanzará en estado de preestreno en cines tanto de México, como de Estados Unidos. Dato curioso: Roma no fue elegible para ser considerada en la categoría a Mejor Película.
Los Spirit Awards –que tienen un buen récord pronosticando al ganador del Óscar: 12 Years a Slave, Birdman, Spotlight, Moonlight– se entregarán el 23 de febrero, con transmisión en vivo a través de IFC.
