- "Avatar" solo se llevó tres estatuillas: Efectos Visuales, Fotografía y Dirección de Arte
- Jeff Bridges y Sandra Bullock fueron los mejores actores para la Academia
- La argentina "El secreto de sus ojos" se lleva el Oscar a Mejor Película Extranjera
Fue una celebración tranquila y sin sorpresas. Ganaron los que tenían que ganar. Es decir, se respetó la marcada tendencia de las diferentes premiaciones previas al Oscar.
La pregunta estaba en el aire. "Avatar" o "The Hurt Locker". Esas eran las dos favoritas. Algunos creían que "Up in the air" podría ser el caballo negro de la noche.
Finalmente y pese al desconcierto y molestia de James Cameron (que no pudo ocultar ante las cámaras cuando entregaron el premio a mejor película), fue "The Hurt Locker/Zona de miedo", la gran ganadora de la gala 2010 del Oscar.

La Academia volvió a dejar de lado una película de ciencia ficción con grandilocuentes efectos especiales. Los poco más 2.5 billones de dólares que se ha embolsado la cinta de James Cameron no pudieron "comprar" el anhelado Oscar a Mejor Película.
En cambio la Academia fijó su atención en una cinta independiente con apenas 15 millones de dólares de presupuesto pero con una impecable historia que contar.

Pareció políticamente más correcto hacer un homenaje a las tropas en Irak que reconocer a unos seres creados virtualmente.
Tal vez el campanazo de la noche lo dio la argentina de coproducción española "El secreto de sus ojos". El filme de Juan José Campanella se impuso a los dos favoritos: la francesa "Un profeta" de Jacques Audiard y "La cinta blanca" del genial Michael Haneke, que ganara en Cannes la Palma de Oro.

Los dos grandes perdedores de la noche: Quentin Tarantino y Jason Reitman. Aunque tienen de su lado a una entera legión de fans que está´n más que satisfechos con sus películas: "Bastardos sin gloria" y "Up in the air/Amor sin escalas".
