Tradicionalmente, los últimos premios entregados previo a la celebración del Óscar son los Film Independent Spirit Awards, que anualmente reconocen lo mejor del cine independiente.
Este sábado por la tarde, se realizó la gala en Santa Mónica, California correspondiente a la edición número 33.
Importante destacar, que los Spirit Awards cuentan con una racha de cuatro años consecutivos premiando como Mejor Película a la producción que un día más tarde termina alzándose con el Óscar a Mejor Película: 12 Years a Slave; Birdman; Spotlight; Moonlight, mostrando así la importancia que viene gozando el cine independiente en los AMPAS.
Las nominaciones anunciadas en noviembre pasado estuvieron dominadas por Get Out, Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird y Good Time.
El thriller de terror escrito y dirigido por Jordan Peele se llevó a casa el reconocimiento como la Mejor Película y Mejor Director. La favorita para alzarse con el Óscar a Mejor Actriz, Frances McDormand, se llevó el Spirit Award en dicha categoría, mientras que Call Me By Your Name ganó Mejor Fotografía y Mejor Actor Protagónico (Timothée Chalamet). Greta Gerwig se llevó el premio a Mejor Guion por Lady Bird.
Latinoamérica dijo presente alzándose con el galardón a Mejor Película Internacional con el drama dirigido por Sebastián Lelio, Una mujer fantástica.
