La carrera al Óscar sigue tomando forma con el anuncio de los candidatos a lo mejor del cine independiente. Las actrices Tessa Thompson y Lily Collins fueron las encargadas de dar a conocer los nombres de los aspirantes a conseguir el galardón de los Film Independent Spirit Awards, que año con año celebran lo mejor de la escena indie.
Los premios, que por tradición son entregados un día antes a la ceremonia del Óscar, cuentan con una racha de cuatro años consecutivos, premiando como Mejor Película a quien un día más tarde, se ha alzado también con el Óscar a Mejor Película: 12 Years a Slave; Birdman; Spotlight; Moonlight, mostrando así la importancia que y la grana acogida que viene gozando el cine independiente en los AMPAS.
Las nominaciones de la edición 33 son dominados por Get Out, Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird y Good Time.
El talento Latinoamericano se hizo presente con la mexicana Salma Hayek, nominada a Mejor Actriz por Beatriz at Dinner, y el cineasta chileno Sebastián Lelio en Mejor Película Internacional por Una mujer fantástica.
Los Film Independent Spirit Awards serán emitidos en vivo por IFC el sábado 3 de marzo. Nick Kroll y John Mulaney serán los conductores de la gala por segundo año consecutivo.
