La tarde del 15 de enero de 2023, la Asociación de Críticos de Cine (Broadcast Film Critics Association, BFCA; por sus siglas en inglés) celebró la gala de premiación de la edición 28, donde reconoció lo mejor del cine y la televisión del año 2022 con los Premios de la Crítica o Critics Choice Awards.
A la ceremonia conducida por Chelsea Handler, llegaba la cinta Everything Everywhere All at Once de Daniels y A24, como la más nominada con 14 candidaturas, y terminó siendo la más ganadora llevándose a casa 5 estatuillas, incluyendo mejor película, mejor guion original y mejor director (es).

Un emocionado Brendan Fraser ganó el Critics a mejor actor por su rol protagónico en The Whale, también de la compañía A24; Cate Blanchett repitió lo que ya viene siendo una tendencia esta temporada de premios, ganando otro premio a mejor actriz por su papel en Tár de Todd Field y Focus Features; Angela Bassett se llevó el Critics a mejor actriz de reparto por Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; Ke Huy Quan ganó a mejor actor de reparto por Everything Everywhere All at Once.
La sensación del 2022, RRR ganó el Critics a mejor película internacional, mientras que su tema principal Naatu Naatu ganó como mejor canción original. Importante destacar que el filme originario de la India no es elegible en esta categoría en los Óscars, pues el país eligió Last Film Show como la representante de India de cara a la ceremonia de 2023.
Guillermo del Toro se ganó el Critics a mejor película animada por Pinocchio, diciendo a la audiencia que “la animación no es un género para niños. Es un medio para abordar temas más grandes.”
En los reconocimientos especiales, Kate Hudson presentó el Premio SeeHer a Janelle Monáe, su coestrella en Glass Onion: A Knives Out; Jeff Bridges recibió el premio a la trayectoria de manos de John Goodman, su coprotagonista en The Big Lebowski. Michelle Pfeiffer presentaría originalmente el reconocimiento a Bridges, pero tuvo que cancelar su aparición en los premios debido a su contagio de COVID.
En el rubro televisivo, algunos de los triunfos más destacados incluyen a Abbott Elementary como mejor serie de comedia; Jeremy Allen White como mejor actor en serie de comedia por The Bear; Jean Smart como mejor actriz de comedia por Hacks –segundo triunfo consecutivo en esta categoría– mientras que Better Call Saul hizo justicia ganando mejor serie de drama por su última temporada, con Bob Odenkirk triunfando en la categoría mejor actor en serie de drama, y Zendaya a mejor actriz en serie de drama por Euphoria. The Dropout de Hulu se llevó a casa el premio a mejor serie limitada, con su protagonista Amanda Seyfried ganando el Critics a mejor actriz en serie limitada.
Jennifer Coolidge continuó su barrida en la temporada de premios, ganando el Critics a mejor actriz de reparto en una serie de drama por The White Lotus de HBO; Giancarlo Esposito ganó la categoría a mejor actor de reparto en serie de drama por Better Call Saul.
