Los Film Independent Spirit Awards 2021 dieron a conocer a todos los nominados de cine y televisión correspondientes a la edición 36, de los galardones que anualmente reconocen lo mejor del cine independiente y televisión.
El anuncio fue hecho por Olivia Wilde, Barry Jenkins y Laverne Cox a través de un live stream (vía sitio oficial y cuenta YouTube oficial).
Las nominaciones estuvieron dominadas por la película Never Rarely Sometimes Always con 7; le sigue Minari con 6, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom y Nomadland con 5 cada una, y Miss Juneteenth con 4.
Las primeras cuatro, junto a First Cow, conforman las cinco nominadas a la categoría grande de la noche como Mejor Película.
OJO AL DATO: Para ser elegible a los FISA, el filme debe tener un presupuesto de hasta $22.5 millones de dólares. Por dicha razón, probablemente encuentres ausente en el listado a más de uno de tus favoritos. Como por ejemplo, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Da 5 Bloods, Man, The Midnight Sky, The Prom y Hillbilly Elegy.
Por el lado del rubro televisivo, las nominaciones las lidera la tragicomedia Little America (Apple TV+), y Unorthodox (Netflix) con 3 para cada una, y I May Destroy You (HBO) con 2.
Esta edición, acabará con la tradición de realizar la ceremonia el día sábado en la antesala del Premio Óscar. En lugar de la ceremonia habitual en Santa Mónica, CA., la gala se llevará a cabo de manera virtual el jueves 22 de abril de 2021 con emisión en vivo a través de la señal de IFC en Estados Unidos (los Óscars serán el domingo 25 de abril).
Este año y tomando en consideración las nominaciones de televisión también, Netflix fue el estudio o streamer con más nominaciones con 16 (en 2020 obtuvo 9). Focus Features le sigue con 10, A24 con 9 (en la temporada 2019-20 dominó las nominaciones con 18), Searchlight Pictures y Sony Pictures Classics con 5 para cada una, HBO con 7, y Amazon Studios cierra el top con 5 nominaciones.
