El Royal Festival Hall en Londres se vistió de gala este domingo 19 de febrero al servir como escenario de la edición 76 de los Premios BAFTA 2023 organizados por la Academia Británica de las Artes Cinematográficas y de la Televisión (British Academy Film Awards; BAFTA). La ceremonia, conducida por el actor Richard E. Grant, fue dominada por el gran triunfo de All Quiet on the Western Front (Im Westen nichts Neues), que se llevó a casa la cifra récord de 7 BAFTAs, incluyendo Mejor Director, Mejor Película, y Mejor Película en Lengua No Inglesa.
- La cinta bélica originaria de Alemania marca récord como la película en lengua no inglesa con más premios, rompiendo el establecido por Cinema Paradiso en 1988, que ganó 5 BAFTAs.
- All Quiet on the Western Front llegaba a la gala como la más nominada, con 14 candidaturas.
Por su parte, The Banshees of Inisherin emergió como la segunda más ganadora de la noche, llevándose a casa los BAFTA a mejor actor y actriz de reparto (Barry Keoghan y Kerry Condon), mejor guion original, mejor película británica, ambos para el guionista y director Martin Mcdonagh.
Cate Blanchett y Austin Butler ganaron los premios a mejor actriz y mejor actor en rol protagónico, por sus interpretaciones en Tár, y Elvis, respectivamente. Y así, los posibles ganadores al Óscar empiezan a definirse cada vez más (Blanchett es la favorita en la categoría a mejor actriz, mientras que Brendan Fraser y Butler se pelean la categoría a mejor actor).
