Este domingo 18 de febrero de 2024, la Academia Británica de las Artes Cinematográficas y de la Televisión, celebró la edición 77 del Premio BAFTA desde el Royal Festival Hall en Londres, Inglaterra, con David Tennant como maestro de ceremonias.
A la gala de premiación llegaban Oppenheimer de Christopher Nolan, y Poor Things de Yorgos Lanthimos como las películas más nominadas, con 13 y 11 nominaciones, respectivamente. Curiosamente, estos fueron los filmes más ganadores de la noche. Oppenheimer se llevó a casa 7 BAFTAs, mientras que Poor Things se llevó 5.
Los triunfos de Oppenheimer incluyeron las categorías a mejor actor (Cillian Murphy), mejor actor de reparto (Robert Downey Jr.), mejor director (Nolan), y mejor película, entre otras.
- El récord como la cinta más ganadora de los BAFTAs continúa en manos de Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) quien se hizo acreedora a 9 galardones.
La gala contó con la presencia de Michael J. Fox, quien entre una ronda de grandes aplausos y ovación de pie, entregó el BAFTA a la mejor película.
Los triunfos de Poor Things fueron para mejor actriz (Emma Stone), mejor diseño de vestuario, mejor maquilla y peinado, mejor diseño de producción, y logro en efectos visuales.
The Zone of Interest de Jonathan Glazer levantó tres BAFTAs de nueve nominaciones en las que optaba, incluyendo mejor película en lengua no inglesa. La cinta japonesa The Boy and the Heron ganó la categoría a animación.
